Vaccinations

Our clinic offers a comprehensive range of vaccinations suitable for adults.

Vaccines help protect all of us from preventable outbreaks of infectious diseases like measles or meningitis and, during this current global pandemic, it is especially important that we maintain the best possible vaccine uptake.

We offer the following vaccinations – if you don’t see a specific treatment on the list, please get in touch to discuss your needs.

Our experienced practitioners can treat almost any medical problem that your NHS GP would, yet go beyond this to provide proactive and personal care that puts your needs at the very heart of our practice. Consultations are flexible and convenient for you, diagnosis and treatment are rapid and comprehensive and, if your health issues are more complex, then we can provide a collaborative approach that explores all possible avenues to improve your overall health and wellbeing.

We have links to some of the world’s leading medical experts across all specialties and can refer you to the most appropriate specialist if required.

Continuity of care is an essential hallmark of the service we offer and, even if we refer you to a consultant colleague for specialised diagnosis and treatment, we will continue to oversee your medical care throughout your patient journey.

Our GP appointments are typically 25 minutes so we can ensure that your needs are fully dealt with. Longer appointments are also available to discuss more complex problems and new patients always get 45 minutes for their initial consultation.

The pneumococcal vaccine protects you against pneumococcal infections, which can be very dangerous and lead to illnesses such as pneumonia or lung infection, ear and sinus infections, meningitis or infection of the covering of the brain and spinal cord, or septicaemia which is a type of blood poisoning.

We can also offer vaccination against other germs which can cause pneumonia if you are at high risk of lung disease. Currently, international guidance on Pneumovax is to repeat at five-year intervals for the highest risk individuals which the NHS does not provide. If you wish to discuss this in more detail, get in touch.

Unfortunately, regular pneumonia vaccines won’t protect you from Coronavirus. Pneumonia vaccines protect against bacterial pneumonia, whereas COVID-19 is a virus.  However, if you are unlucky enough to have had COVID lung disease, we recommend these vaccinations as your risk of coming to harm from bacterial pneumonia is much higher.

Shingles can be an extremely serious condition, causing severe discomfort and pain. It is caused by a reactivation of the chickenpox virus and many adults will develop shingles in later life. We offer Shingrix, a more effective and up-to-date Shingles vaccination than what is currently offered on the NHS. We provide this from aged 55 onwards and it is a two-shot course.

Flu is a disease that can spread rapidly and there are several strains in circulation. Our flu vaccinations can protect you against three or more strains of the flu virus that are predicted to be the most likely to cause a flu epidemic, offering protection from around two to three weeks after your vaccination. Flu season typically lasts between October and February and anyone can request a flu vaccine, but they are particularly recommended for those with underlying health conditions that make flu more dangerous.
